If you follow us you’ve heard of Rachel Perry in the student blogs written by Leah Hansen and Simon Goldberg, but today you get a chance to see why she is one of our students’ favorite faculty members in the Weiss-Livnat International MA Program in Holocaust Studies. Dr. Perry recently gave a lectured as part of a series of TEDx talks held at Ben Gurion University:
“The arts are often considered a soft subject, in contradistinction with serious, hardcore disciplines like the sciences that use statistics and facts and graphs. And our formal academic education privileges textual sources and textual analysis. But I believe that we also need to learn visual literacy, how to read visual texts critically. Sights can give us insight. They can foster an interpersonal relationship which reaches out across time and space and connects us not only with our pasts but also with each other in the present.”
