My name is Dr. Yael Granot-Bein, and I am the Administrative Director of the Weiss-Livnat International MA in Holocaust Studies program at the University of Haifa.
Our program is comprised of a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of the Holocaust, using history, psychology, education, anthropology and the arts to foster a comprehensive understanding of our subject material.
Our partnerships with Yad Vashem and The Ghetto Fighters’ House Museum help to enrich our students’ exposure to the professional life of a Holocaust scholar while providing extensive research opportunities and private seminars for the members of our group.
We are proud to offer internship opportunities at these two institutions as well many other places that will be highlighted on this forum in the future. Our program also features a study tour to Poland, which takes our students out of the classroom and to the actual sites where this history occurred.
In addition to all of this, our students volunteer weekly with Holocaust survivors, giving back to the community and fostering personal relationships with vital sources in our field. Each week the program hosts a guest lecturer who meets exclusively with our group. Such speakers include leading historians, Holocaust survivors and rescuers, filmmakers, and even Nazi hunters.
We constantly receive inquiries about our program from prospective students, and have decided to create this forum to share the content and ongoing activities of our program throughout the year. We hope you will become familiar with our approach to Holocaust Studies and explore our program through the perspective of our students and faculty.
